matplotlibColormap

Below is a demonstration of the features of the matplotlibColormap function

Contents

clear; close all; clc;

Syntax

[cMap]=matplotlibColormap(c,n);

Description

This function is a MATLAB implementation of the matplotlib colormaps by Nathaniel J. Smith, Stefan van der Walt, and (in the case of viridis) Eric Firing.

The input c controls the type of colormap: 'magma' (or 1), 'inferno' (or 2), 'plasma' (or 3), 'viridis' (or 4), and 'turbo (or 5). The input n controls the number of color levels used.

Examples

%Plot settings
fontSize=15;

Create example data for visualizations

n=250;
s=1;
[X,Y]=ndgrid(linspace(-3*s,3*s,n));
Z=exp( -0.5.*((X./s).^2+(Y./s).^2));
Z=Z./max(Z(:));
Z(X<0)=-Z(X<0);
colorLim=[-1 1];
n = 100;
nameSet = {'magma','inferno','plasma','viridis','turbo'};

cFigure;
for q=1:1:5

    cMap = matplotlibColormap(nameSet{q},n);

    hs=subplot(2,3,q); hold on;
    title([nameSet{q},' colormap'],'FontSize',fontSize);
    imagesc(Z);
    colormap(hs,cMap); colorbar;
    axis tight; axis equal; axis xy; box on;
    axis off;
    set(gca,'FontSize',fontSize);
    clim(colorLim);

end
drawnow;
